Erik Wallrup: Visits to musical gardens of the 18th century
One of the great changes within the cultural sphere during the 18th century was the emergence of the English landscape garden, which made a new relation between man and nature visible. It spread from England during the second half of the century as an embodiment of the sentimental culture. At the seminar, this transformation and its musical parallels are to be discussed, all of them manifestations of a suggested change within the ‘patheme’ – the affective counterpart to Foucault’s concept of episteme. A text will be distributed before the seminar, open for discussion and critical comments.
