Guest speaker Bjarki Valtysson, Professor of Digital Culture at the Department of Arts and Cultural Studies, University of Copenhagen
The Platformisation of Museums
In this talk, Bjarki Valtysson will present his forthcoming book on the platformisation of museums. Drawing on insights from cultural studies, platform studies, media studies, cultural policy, and museology, Valtysson develops a theoretical framework centred on the platformised field of cultural production and what he refers to as platformised museology. The book examines the policies and practices of well-known art and cultural museums, including those in Denmark and Norway, the Prado Museum and Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, and the British Museum. It also incorporates interviews with museum professionals from these institutions. Valtysson concludes the talk by reflecting on recent developments in generative AI and their implications for the museum as an esteemed cultural institution.
