How is masculinity negotiated on social media platforms today? What occurs in the interplay between men's rights activists, algorithmic recommendation systems, and young male platform users?

My research examines how ideals of masculinity are constructed through this interplay, focusing on how young cisgender men living in Sweden engage with content that promotes essentialist, heteronormative, and misogynistic ideals of masculinity on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Snapchat.

The aim of my doctoral project is to develop a deeper understanding of the ongoing negotiations of masculinity that take place in the interplay between manosphere content, algorithmic recommendation systems, and young cisgender men's information-related activities on social media platforms.
