Musicology and intermedia studies: Researching Chess
Mikael Askander
Mikael Askander will present his research on chess and/as culture (work in progress). Emphasis is put on the medialities of chess, and is mainly taking on to the 21st century (though with historical reflections).
The project is focusing on chess in two ways:
1) chess as culture (-s), IRL and online, as a kind of a culture in itself; not only chess tournamnets and chess clubs, but also som different variations of chess, like chess boxing and chess tourism; and:
2) chess as depicted and represented in culture, popular culture, advertising, etc. For instance: in TV-series, film, literature, graphic novels, music videos, and more.
