Course
Course 7.5 credits • IMSB26
In this course, you will explore popular culture as it appears in live contexts. You will focus on popular culture as an aesthetic and cultural-historical phenomenon, emphasising intermedial perspectives.
During the course you will explore what it means to experience popular culture through various live events such as concerts, sporting events, stand-up comedy, festivals, and activities related to the experience industry. You will also study historical perspectives on popular culture.
Throughout the course, you will learn methods relevant to the study of live events, including fieldwork, participant observation and interviews. You will also engage in theoretical analysis based on intermediality and popular culture. One of these methods you will also apply in an individual, small-scale study focusing on a live event of your choice.
The course is part of Intermedia Studies, a subject that is aimed at those who are interested in art, music, media and communication and who want to combine these interests in their studies.
This course is also part of IMSA22, Intermedia Studies: Level 2.
