This course provides an overview of Swedish art and visual culture from prehistoric times to the present day, with additional insights into art from other Scandinavian countries.
This course offers you a chronological overview of art and visual culture in Scandinavia, from Bronze Age rock carvings to contemporary art and architecture. You will discuss topics such as gender perspectives, the evolving role of the artist, the development of artistic communities and institutions in Sweden, as well as expressions of nationalism and international influences. In addition to lectures, the course includes visits to local museums and studies of architecture in Lund.
